Your law, your interest
Your contract is usually governed by your German or Austrian law; best to state that in your quote and your terms. For business clients, German law gives you 9 percentage points above the base rate, so 10.52% for the second half of 2026, plus a EUR 40 flat fee. Austrian law gives you 9.2 points, so 10.73%, also with EUR 40. The late-payment interest calculator works out the exact amount.
The three templates
Pick where your business is based, Germany or Austria, above each template: the rate, the law and the flat fee are already filled in. You only replace the bracketed placeholders.

What is different with clients in Bosnia and Herzegovina
- A mark with a fixed rate. The local currency is the convertible mark (KM, BAM), pegged to the euro: EUR 1 is always KM 1.95583. Whether you invoice in euros or marks, there is no real currency risk. If your client books in marks, simply convert the reminder amount at this rate.
- The entity matters. The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska and the Brčko District partly have their own rules. Check the billing address to see where your client is based before you refer to local deadlines.
- Payment terms in the Federation. There, terms between businesses are usually capped at 60 days, and 30 days apply if nothing is agreed. Longer terms need a written agreement.
- Transfer with IBAN and BIC. Give your IBAN and BIC (SWIFT) and the invoice number as the payment reference. With an international transfer, intermediary banks sometimes deduct fees. Best agree that your client pays them.
- No German VAT. Services to business clients outside the EU are not taxable in Germany or Austria. That is why the templates leave out the reverse-charge line for EU clients.

Frequently asked questions
Can I send a client in Bosnia and Herzegovina a payment reminder in English?
Yes. The country has three official languages, Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian. English saves you from choosing, and if you have been writing to each other in English, an English reminder is the natural choice.
How much interest can I charge?
Under German law 10.52% a year, under Austrian law 10.73%. On top comes a EUR 40 flat fee (as of the second half of 2026). If your contract uses your client's law, their rules apply.
Should I invoice in euros or marks?
Both work without real currency risk, because the mark is pegged to the euro: EUR 1 equals KM 1.95583. What matters is that the invoice and the reminder show the same currency.
What payment terms are usual in Bosnia and Herzegovina?
In the Federation, terms between businesses are usually capped at 60 days, and 30 days apply if nothing is agreed. If your client is in Republika Srpska or Brčko, their own rules apply.
