Your law, your interest
Your contract is usually governed by your German or Austrian law; best to state that in your quote and your terms. For business clients, German law gives you 9 percentage points above the base rate, so 10.52% for the second half of 2026, plus a EUR 40 flat fee. Austrian law gives you 9.2 points, so 10.73%, also with EUR 40. The late-payment interest calculator works out the exact amount.
The three templates
Pick where your business is based, Germany or Austria, above each template: the rate, the law and the flat fee are already filled in. You only replace the bracketed placeholders.

What is different with clients in Romania
- Leu or euro. Romania pays in lei (RON), not euros. An invoice in euros is simpler for you: the transfer goes by SEPA and your client carries the exchange-rate risk. If they pay in lei, a bank converts the amount, often for a fee.
- 30 days, 60 at most. If nothing is agreed, an invoice in Romania is due 30 days after the client receives it. Agreed terms are capped at 60 days, longer only if not abusive. Send the invoice in a way you can prove, so the receipt date is clear.
- VAT ID starting with RO, any length. The Romanian number is RO plus 2 to 10 digits, so a short number is not a typo. With the reverse-charge note in the reminder, your client's accounts team matches the invoice at once.
- Easter often comes later. Romania celebrates Orthodox Easter, often a few weeks after Western Easter. Many offices close around the holidays. Check the date before you set a deadline.

Frequently asked questions
Can I send a client in Romania a payment reminder in English?
Yes. If you have been writing to each other in English, an English reminder is the natural choice. What matters is that it is clear: invoice number, amount with currency, deadline and bank details.
How much interest can I charge?
Under German law 10.52% a year, under Austrian law 10.73%. On top comes a EUR 40 flat fee (as of the second half of 2026). If your contract uses your client's law, their rules apply.
Should I ask for euros or lei?
Use the currency of your invoice. If you invoiced in euros, you ask for euros, and your client handles the exchange.
What payment terms are usual in Romania?
30 days from receipt of the invoice if nothing is agreed. Agreed terms are capped at 60 days, longer only if not abusive.
