Your law, your interest

Your contract is usually governed by your German or Austrian law; best to state that in your quote and your terms. For business clients, German law gives you 9 percentage points above the base rate, so 10.52% for the second half of 2026, plus a EUR 40 flat fee. Austrian law gives you 9.2 points, so 10.73%, also with EUR 40. The late-payment interest calculator works out the exact amount.

The three templates

Pick where your business is based, Germany or Austria, above each template: the rate, the law and the flat fee are already filled in. You only replace the bracketed placeholders.

What is different with clients in Sweden

  • 30 days at most. In Sweden, an invoice between businesses is due no later than 30 days after the payment request. A later date only applies if you expressly agreed to it. So 30 days on your invoice is completely normal there.
  • Kronor or euros. Sweden pays in kronor (SEK). If you agreed on euros, the money arrives by SEPA transfer with no conversion. With kronor, your bank converts the amount, and the rate and fees decide how much reaches you.
  • VAT ID starting with SE. The Swedish number is SE plus twelve digits: the ten-digit company registration number followed by 01. With the reverse-charge note in the reminder, your client's accounts team finds the invoice at once.
  • First names and plain words. Swedish business is informal, and first names are the norm. "Dear [first name]" often fits better than Mr or Ms. Factual and friendly gets further than a sharp tone.
  • Summer starts at Midsummer. From Midsummer at the end of June into August, many Swedish companies are on holiday, and July is holiday time almost everywhere. If the deadline falls in those weeks, send the reminder earlier.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send a client in Sweden a payment reminder in English?

Yes. English is a given in Swedish business. What matters is that the reminder is clear: invoice number, amount, deadline and bank details.

How much interest can I charge?

Under German law 10.52% a year, under Austrian law 10.73%. On top comes a EUR 40 flat fee (as of the second half of 2026). If your contract uses your client's law, their rules apply.

What payment terms are allowed in Sweden?

At most 30 days after the payment request. A later date only applies if you expressly agreed to it.

Should I send the reminder in euros or kronor?

In the currency of your invoice. Euros save you the conversion and the exchange-rate risk, and your client pays by SEPA transfer.
