Your law, your interest
Your contract is usually governed by your German or Austrian law; best to state that in your quote and your terms. For business clients, German law gives you 9 percentage points above the base rate, so 10.52% for the second half of 2026, plus a EUR 40 flat fee. Austrian law gives you 9.2 points, so 10.73%, also with EUR 40. The late-payment interest calculator works out the exact amount.
The three templates
Pick where your business is based, Germany or Austria, above each template: the rate, the law and the flat fee are already filled in. You only replace the bracketed placeholders.

What is different with clients in Hungary
- Forint or euro. Hungary pays in forint (HUF), but invoices in euros are possible and simpler for you. A euro transfer from Hungary goes by SEPA, with no conversion on your side. If your client pays in forint, a bank converts the amount, often for a fee.
- 30 days, and over 60 gets tricky. If nothing is agreed, your client pays 30 days after receiving the invoice. In Hungary, payment terms over 60 days are presumed unfair until proven otherwise.
- Tax number is not the VAT ID. The Hungarian tax number is longer and has hyphens. The VAT ID is HU plus 8 digits. With the reverse-charge note in the reminder, your client's accounts team finds the invoice at once.
- Surname first. In Hungary the family name comes first: in "Nagy Péter", Nagy is the surname. So the greeting is "Dear Mr Nagy", not "Dear Mr Péter".

Frequently asked questions
Can I send a client in Hungary a payment reminder in English?
Yes. If you have been writing to each other in English, an English reminder is the natural choice. What matters is that it is clear: invoice number, amount with currency, deadline and bank details.
How much interest can I charge?
Under German law 10.52% a year, under Austrian law 10.73%. On top comes a EUR 40 flat fee (as of the second half of 2026). If your contract uses your client's law, their rules apply.
Should I ask for euros or forint?
Use the currency of your invoice. If you invoiced in euros, the reminder stays in euros, and your client handles the exchange.
What payment terms are usual in Hungary?
30 days from receipt of the invoice if nothing is agreed. More than 60 days is presumed unfair and can be challenged.
