Your law, your interest

Your contract is usually governed by your German or Austrian law; best to state that in your quote and your terms. For business clients, German law gives you 9 percentage points above the base rate, so 10.52% for the second half of 2026, plus a EUR 40 flat fee. Austrian law gives you 9.2 points, so 10.73%, also with EUR 40. The late-payment interest calculator works out the exact amount.

The three templates

Pick where your business is based, Germany or Austria, above each template: the rate, the law and the flat fee are already filled in. You only replace the bracketed placeholders.

What is different with clients in Norway

  • Not in the EU, no VAT line. Norway is in the EEA but not in the EU. Services to Norwegian businesses carry no German or Austrian VAT, and there is no EU VAT ID. That is why the templates have no VAT ID and no reverse-charge line.
  • Put a date on the invoice. Without an agreed due date, interest in Norway only runs 30 days after a written payment demand, and by email only if your client expressly accepted email. A fixed date on the invoice saves you that.
  • 60 days at most. Between businesses, Norway allows payment terms of up to 60 days, unless you expressly agree otherwise.
  • Kroner or euros. Norway pays in kroner (NOK), and euros work by agreement. Euros from Norway arrive by SEPA with no conversion. Kroner come as an international transfer, and the rate and fees decide how much reaches you.
  • Fellesferie in July. In July many Norwegian companies take a few weeks of summer holiday at the same time. If the deadline falls in that period, send the reminder at the end of June instead.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send a client in Norway a payment reminder in English?

Yes. English is common in Norwegian business. What matters is that the reminder is clear: invoice number, amount, deadline and bank details.

How much interest can I charge?

Under German law 10.52% a year, under Austrian law 10.73%. On top comes a EUR 40 flat fee (as of the second half of 2026). If your contract uses your client's law, their rules apply.

What payment terms are allowed in Norway?

At most 60 days between businesses, unless you expressly agree otherwise. Put a fixed due date on the invoice.

Does a VAT ID belong in the reminder?

No. Norway is not in the EU, so there is no EU VAT ID and no reverse-charge note. Invoice number, amount and bank details are enough.
