Time tracking
Track time the easiest way possible. Focus on your work while your time is tracked in the background.
Run the timer from the top bar or log hours by hand. Tracked or logged hours can easily be added to your invoices.

Your week, or everyone's. Easily keep an overview of what's happening in your business.
Every entry on one page.
Entries are grouped by day with a daily total. Edit a line in place, or log a new one in the bar above: client, project, what you did, and a time like 1:30 or 90m. A small icon shows whether it came from the web, the timer or the AI.
See who worked on what.
Managers switch to Team and every entry shows who booked it. Everyone's hours sit in the same list, by day, so a timesheet question is one glance, not a chat thread.
Easily track target hours. Compare tracked hours with your targets at a glance.
Set target hours. Give every client a monthly target in hours, or a retainer. Backbone shows it as a bar in your client list, so you see at a glance who is close to the limit.
Track hours per client. Every entry lands on a client and project. As the month goes on, you compare tracked hours with the target and get a heads-up before the budget runs out, while there is still time to talk to the client.
Invoice from hours tracked or logged. Open hours go onto the invoice with Add hours from Time, at the client's rate. Retainer hours count as covered; hours above it are flagged, so you can bill them extra.
Logging time shouldn't be a hassle. We make it easy for you.
In the web app
One line: client, project, description and a duration like 1:30, 90m or 1,5h.
The top-bar timer
Start it on any page. It keeps running across pages and devices, and asks what you worked on when you stop.
Mac appComing soon
The Backbone Mac app lives in your menu bar as an icon. You can track and log time from there.
Chat and AI tools
Say “log 2 hours on Nordlicht, workshop prep” to Backbone AI, or to Claude or ChatGPT through the connector.
Time tracking questions
In the top bar, on any page of the app. It keeps running when you change pages or devices. When you stop it, Backbone asks for client, project and description and books the entry. You can also log time by hand (1:30, 90m or 1,5h all work), or ask the AI to do it through the connector.
Members see and edit their own entries. Managers can switch to Team to see everyone's hours, and the reports follow the same rule.
Yes. Each person can have a weekly target in Settings › Team. Reports › Utilization compares it with the hours booked, per person.
Give a client a monthly target in hours and the budget bar in the client list shows booked against target. With a retainer, hours within the month's target count as covered and don't show up as open. Hours above it are shown separately, so you can bill them extra if you like.
A Mac menu-bar timer for time tracking is on its way. Until it ships, use the timer in the top bar of the web app.
In the invoice editor choose Add hours from Time, pick the open hours of that client and they become lines at the client's rate. Those hours are then marked as invoiced.
