How it works
How do I create an invoice?
- 01
Enter your details and your client's
Type the name and full address of the issuer and the recipient straight onto the page. Add your VAT ID; for supplies to other businesses the recipient's VAT ID can be required.
- 02
Set the invoice number and dates
The number must be unique and sequential. Add the issue date, the due date and the service period.
- 03
Add the line items
Describe each service with quantity and unit price. Net, VAT and gross total are calculated for you.
- 04
Pick the tax case
Choose VAT, small business (Kleinunternehmer) or reverse charge. The matching note appears on the invoice.
- 05
Download the PDF
Check the A4 preview and download it. No account, no watermark.

FAQ
Questions about the invoice generator
Is this invoice generator really free?
Yes. You can create as many invoices as you like and download them as PDFs, without an account, an email address or a watermark.
Is the invoice legally correct?
The template has a place for every mandatory field under § 11 UStG (Austria) and § 14 UStG (Germany), provided you fill them in completely. It is not legal or tax advice. If special rules apply to you, ask your tax adviser.
How do I write an invoice as a small business (Kleinunternehmer)?
Choose Small business. The invoice then shows no VAT and carries a note on the exemption. The note refers to § 6 Abs. 1 Z 27 UStG for an issuer in Austria and § 19 UStG for an issuer in Germany.
How do I create a reverse-charge invoice?
Choose Reverse charge. The invoice shows no VAT and states that the VAT liability passes to the recipient. Both your VAT ID and your client's must appear on the invoice, and reverse charge only applies in specific cases, so check that yours qualifies.
Can I save the invoice and edit it later?
No. The generator stores nothing, so once you leave the page your input is gone. To reuse clients, continue invoice numbers, send invoices by email and chase payments automatically, use Backbone.
How long do I have to keep invoices?
Invoices are subject to retention rules: seven years in Austria and eight years in Germany. Store the PDF somewhere you will find it again.
