No Word, no Excel, no formatting. Type straight onto the invoice and download the PDF. No account, no watermark.
The PDF stays in your browser. The generator saves nothing.
Sample data: 12 h × €85
In short
An invoice template needs what § 11 UStG (Austria) or § 14 (4) UStG (Germany) requires: both addresses, the service and its date, net amount, tax rate and tax amount, a consecutive number and your VAT ID or tax number. In the generator you type onto the invoice, pick the tax case and download the PDF for free.
You see the finished invoice and click any field: sender, client, line items, dates. No columns to drag around, no totals to add up.
Net, VAT and gross are calculated for you. You pick the tax case with one click: VAT, small business or reverse charge, and the matching note appears on the invoice.
The template in the generator is called Basic: plain, with room for your logo and with the fields the law asks for.
Example
An example: 12 hours at €85 make €1,020 net. In Austria, 20% VAT adds €204 and you bill €1,224 gross. In Germany, 19% is exactly €193.80 of tax and €1,213.80 gross. You type hours and rate. The template does the rest.
| Austria | Germany | |
|---|---|---|
| Net | €1,020.00 | €1,020.00 |
| VAT | 20 % · €204.00 | 19 % · €193.80 |
| Gross | €1,224.00 | €1,213.80 |
The short version. Each guide explains every detail with an example.
Above €10,000 gross, business clients' UID is added. Up to €400 gross, a simplified invoice is enough (§ 11 Abs. 6).
Plus two notes for special cases. Up to €250 gross, a simplified invoice is enough (§ 33 UStDV).

no VAT, but a note on the exemption (§ 6 Abs. 1 Z 27 UStG in Austria, § 19 UStG in Germany).
no VAT on the invoice, the tax liability passes to the client. Both VAT IDs belong on it.
describe hours, hourly rate and period so the client can follow them.
By the tenth invoice you notice the gaps: the generator saves nothing, you look up the last number, retype the client and chase payments yourself.
That's where Backbone takes over. In the generator: Basic. In Backbone: Basic and Minimal, two plain invoice templates with room for your logo.
Same invoice as in the generator, just saved. More on invoices in Backbone.
No. The generator produces a PDF, not a Word or Excel file. Layouts shift in Word and Excel, and totals are only right if your formulas are. You can change everything on the page before downloading.
It has a field for every mandatory detail under § 11 UStG (Austria) and § 14 UStG (Germany). Whether your invoice is correct depends on you filling everything in. For your own case, ask your tax adviser.
The same one, with "Small business" selected. Then no VAT appears and the exemption note is included. The legal reference differs by country (§ 6 Abs. 1 Z 27 UStG in Austria, § 19 UStG in Germany), so check in the note field that the text fits your country.
No. Your input stays in the browser tab and is gone when you leave the page. Download the PDF and file it where you will find it. You must keep invoices for seven years in Austria (§ 132 BAO) and eight years in Germany (§ 14b UStG).
In Austria yes, if your client agrees to electronic invoices (§ 11 Abs. 2 UStG). In Germany, a PDF between businesses has not counted as an e-invoice since 2025, but it is still allowed with the client's consent until 31/12/2026, and until 31/12/2027 if prior-year turnover was at most €800,000 (§ 27 Abs. 38 UStG). After that, between businesses you generally need a structured format. Exceptions apply, for example, to invoices up to €250 (§ 33 UStDV) and to small-business (Kleinunternehmer) invoices (§ 34a UStDV). The generator produces the PDF only.
